Grizzly Bear “Two Weeks”

Cool video, directed by Patrick Daughters (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Feist, Depeche Mode), from Brooklyn’s Grizzly Bear who just sold out two nights in NYC at Town Hall (5/28 and 5/29) and one night at MHOW 5/31.

Veckatimest, Grizzly Bear’s latest release, just debuted #8 on Billboard…pretty rad disc. GB played an acoustic set for NPR to open WNYC’s American Music Festival a couple of weeks ago.

GPOYW: Me with racoon eyes my niece Lizzie on my hometown of St. Simons Island (notice I said “on” as opposed to “in”…cause technically, I’m “on” my hometown…since its an island…but then again, I guess we are “on” new york city as opposed to “in” new york city…whatevs). No one was dancing at my cousin’s wedding reception, so, DUH, me and Lizzie went out and lit up the dance floor to a little Stevie Wonder and, as predicted, everyone started gettin down.

To begin a string of “relatively new” music posts…

Phoenix “1901”

With more than 3M MySpace views…not sure the HIGHLY remixed French group Phoenix qualifies as “relatively new” but thought I’d throw them out here anyway.

One aspect of Phoenix vs. other similar bands right now (similar not in musical style, but in the buzz they’ve been getting from the same blogs/same crowd w/ same general interest in music…animal collective, passion pit, chromatics) is that their lyrics are actually relevant/meaningful…

Although their upcoming shows in NYC (June 18th/ MHOW & June 19th/ Terminal 5) are sold out…I think I’ll try to find a way to “fall out.” (yes i’m cheesy)

GPOYW: Me in my room.
Items worth noting:
First and foremost, I lofted my bed. Yes, its fratty, but doubles the square footage of my room (ish)…
My smirk says: “oh, don’t take this pict——ughhh…(*smile)”
Old school stereo and speakers…sound amazing though
Family pictures (g-parents, nieces, mom)
Penley book on top of the stereo
5 of the 7 Chronicles of Narnia books on the dresser (gotta love ol’ C.S.)
To the left of the dresser, a bunch of things I’ve been meaning to get framed
On top of the stereo, collection of Winston Churchill speeches that my grandmother gave to my grandfather in 1969 after their trip to Chartwell (the Churchill Estate)…inscription:

Beloved Wood,
I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I ejoyed finding it with you.
Your love,
Carolyn

Hat rack: Masters’ hats…homemade scull cap made for me by one of my best friend’s gf’s
And my personal fave…in my hand, a pink cup from “My Morning Jacket: Under The Sea Prom” from the 40 Watt in Athens senior year. Two night under-the-sea prom themed concerts. Unreal

NYU Student Nyle remixin Lil’ Wayne’s “Let the Beat Build“…actually like Nyle’s version better (i’m a sucker for live music and love it when rappers use live backing bands)…

AND he makes it his own w/ a little free style…and makes it relevant to all of us:

“I ain’t stressin this recession
If it leads to a depression
It won’t be in my mind
I’ll be fine, as long as I’m
Survin off of beats, and Ramen
Then I don’t mind survivin
Off of eatin no Ramen”

“This video was filmed in one take, with audio being recorded simultaneously with the film. The video features Nyle and is produced by Last Pictures and 194 Recordings

Took 30 takes to get it right…so so sick.
